WIP Wednesday
14 Jan 2026 10:40I am the type of person to move from project to project as my energy and attention span allows, so here are my current projects, their statuses, and the things on my radar that are on the back burner.
Ravelry - I am at the instep for the first sock of this project so have been just knitting when I have a spare moment here and there. When I get to the heel, I will need to set aside some time to really focus on the pattern as this is my first time knitting a real project let alone socks, but I can see why some people like to knit socks so often!
Ravelry - This is my first spinning project after I lost my very first spindle and half of the wool I had been spinning on it. I needed some time to grieve, but it was time to get back to it. I am on the second of ten rolags (my first time spinning from non-roving), and I love the pink/purple/teal colorway. (The colors of my aunt's hot air balloon in my childhood♡) Doing this on the Turkish Spindle I picked up at Fiber Fusion NW 2025, and I am almost mad I did not get a Turkish spindle sooner as it spins like such a dream. I think I'd like to pick up a lighter one this year.
Ravelry - I! Am! Determined! To finish this shirt in time for summer this year (so like... probably July in my area). I need to sit down with the project as well as the pattern to figure out where I am at. I think I'm adding the button sections on the front? But we will see.
I have not touched this since my trip to Phoenix last month, but I literally just have the bee wings to finish. This is a commercial kit I was gifted from Amazon, and I don't adore the instructions or stitch choices at parts, so I've made a few deviations, and I don't love the way the wings are done and have been mulling over what I want to do. I have enough floss to make a second version of this piece if I ever want to, so I'm tempted to just finish it as instructed so I can be done and move on to another embroidery piece.
Neocities - As my work situation has ramped up in unexpected ways, my time with my website definitely fell to the bottom of my WIP pile. I have a lot of things I would like to do for the site, but have been neglecting to start because decision fatigue from work has meant I haven't had the capacity to code and design the way I like. I started working on updating my Credits page (long overdue) and also got an RSS feed set up so my journal entries here are reflected on my Journal page there.
I changed my pledge from a word count pledge to a habit pledge for 2026. Something about the word count goal made me feel pressured, and sitting down to write, I felt so intimidated about reaching my word count that my brain wasn't letting me actually write. Something about switching to the habit goal, having to write for 20 minutes (minimum) and whatever happens happens?? I've been writing more consistently this month than I think I did for most of last year.
I would still like to try getting one of my laptops on Linux given the current state of Windows so I can try it out without messing up my current workflow just yet. I need time to sit down with the info though (and I have a few guides from some helpful friends set aside). Assuming her hardware isn't too far gone, I'd love to use my very first laptop (heavy, but v small guy♡); I just need to make sure that all of her files were properly backed up (which I doubt past Dryad did).
Apartment decorating is always an ongoing process. If year one of living in a space is getting familiar with it, and year two is refining it, year three is for decorating. I have a few ideas for wall mounting (our instruments and our prop weapons), and I'd like to set aside some better display spaces so we can actually make some of the Gunpla sets that my partner has gotten. Definitely not an excuse for me to also get some miniature kids as well. X)
Our spare bedroom is also still not usable the way I would like. I had is in a somewhat usable, albeit incredibly cluttered state last summer, but had to move some of the boxes away from the wall for winter (baseboard heater), and it is looking worse than ever. To be honest, most of the clutter is mine, a lot of it is hobby items. I've gotten rid of some stuff, but I think this is the year I need to make a more dedicated effort to declutter and maybe make some better storage options instead of my endless sea of decade old moving boxes.
At some point, I know I will want to customize Dreamwidth more. Probably some custom CSS and more icons at a minimum. We'll see when the mood to actually tackle that strikes me.
Rising Up Socks

Northern Lights Rolag Handspun

Calad Shirt

Sunflower & Bees Embroidery

Dryad Glen Website
